When I was growing up when my Dad was alive , he died a month after I turned 11.He died of a rare blood disorder at 44 years old. We had a vacation routine each year. We spent our two week break at Christmas with my mom’s parents. All of her 5 siblings, their spouses and children all came Christmas Day to celebrate Christmas. This has now changed to a family reunion in the summer. In the summer we would go to Tyler Texas to see my Great Aunt Lottie who cooked enough food each meal for an army! But it was all so delicious! So she would fry a bunch of chicken, make sandwiches and some kind of dessert and soda for our ice chest . We would then drive to Arlington, Texas to go to Six Flags for a day, then on to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas to my grandparents. My grandparents lived ten miles from Mexico, a very tiny one street town where my family got their medication filled and we brought back home huge bags of oranges and tangerines, plus a lot of other things that was much cheaper there. Also in the summer we would go to Mississippi for a week to visit my Dads family.
After I had my daughter and son , we also went to visit Grandaddy and my second grandmother since my biological grandmother had died when I was 7 years old. We also went to visit my Great Aunt Lottie when she was alive. Still cooking a huge amount of food! When my kids and I lived in Denton, Texas we also went to Arlington to go to Six Flags. We also packed an ice chest with sandwiches , soda and water. We did this because the food and drinks were so expensive inside the park. Whenever my kids and I traveled I always made an ice chest with food and drinks. Much cheaper than eating out every meal. Going to visit family we stayed with them so it didn’t cost us for a hotel.
I think now people have gotten away from visiting family like we used to. But it’s definitely a cheaper vacation and so fun to laugh and catch up with family! So for your next vacation, think about what family you would like to visit or friends! Especially think about visiting older relatives as time left with them is precious.
