by Darla Youngblood

This is a cake my Mom made when I was growing up. It’s a very good chocolate cake!

Cake

2 sticks of butter

1 cup of water

4 Tablespoons of cocoa

2 cups of sugar

2 cups of flour

1/2teaspoon of salt

3 eggs

1/2 cup of sour cream

1teaspoon of baking sofa

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease a large cookie sheet with sides. In a saucepan mix butter, water and cocoa, bring to a boil. Pour into large bowl. In a small bowl mix sugar, flour and salt. Gradually add dry mixture to chocolate, mix well. Blending between additions add 3 eggs, sour cream and baking soda. Pour into well greased cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes.
Frosting

1 stick of butter

4 Tablespoons of cocoa

6 Tablespoons of milk

1 pound of powdered sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

1 cup of walnuts (optional)

Make frosting approximately 15 minutes before cake is done. Cake should be frosted as soon as it’s removed from the oven. Melt butter in saucepan. Add cocoa and milk. Heat until mixture starts to bubble. Remove from heat. Gradually beat in powdered sugar then vanilla. When completely blended, add walnuts (optional). Spread on cake as soon as it’s removed from oven.
