Happy Veterans Day to all Veterans

By Darla Youngblood

This is the last picture of my Dad. He died of a rare blood disorder called Amyloidosis. We literally only had him a few weeks! I had just turned 11 years old. I’m very proud of my Dad ! He was in the Army so today I honor him in memory and honor all of our veterans here in the United States on Veterans Day.
Im sure every single person who reads my post has something their Dad did your proud of! I have several family members and friends who are Veterans. I remember as a child my church always handed out poppy’s on the Sunday before Veterans Day. I remember my Dad teaching me how to wear it with the stem pointing at 11 o’clock. I had forgotten about that until I read my other post that a friend posted on Facebook. I only had my Dad for a few years of my life but he taught me so much about life in those years! He always had me and my brothers sit down and watch anything historical on the news. Back then we only had 3 channels! And when you watched something their were no other time to watch it or chance to see it again! And everyone but one person took a break in commercial to go to the kitchen to grab something to eat and the person who stayed yelling it’s back on and everyone racing back to the living room! 😂😂 Of course now we can watch those old shows again but back then we thought they were lost forever! We went camping a lot and at 5 years old it came over the radio that the first man had walked on the moon! I remember my Dad teasing me and saying look at the moon Darla do you see a man walking on it!
I still remember watching the footage on television!
So on this day I honor my Dads memory and I absolutely would not be the strong woman I am today without him!
I’m so proud of all our military veterans today and thank them all for their service.
Today and every day honor the memory of your Dad or Mom in some way and teach your children and grandchildren all you remember! If your still fortunate enough to have a parent living call them go see them tell them about your day! It’s really important because none of us are alive long on this earth! Treasure every moment with them!
