The most important part of Christmas

By Darla Youngblood

The Peanuts gang is always there to remind us of what’s important about Christmas. It’s not about the presents but spending time with family and friends.
As a single Mom, I didn’t always have the money to give to the close people in my life besides my children and now grandkids too. So I often made my own gifts. Sometimes it was a craft I made, sometimes grape or apple jelly I made, a hot chocolate mix that I put together myself and sometimes cookies or even banana bread. These gifts were inexpensive to make and always a great surprise for family and friends!
I spend Christmas Day with my daughter and grandkids who live not far from me. It’s nice that my daughter makes this great meal for all of us and we just enjoy spending time with each other. Sometimes in the afternoon after we eat we play cards or board games. That’s always fun.
Another thing that people love to get is a homemade pie or homemade candy.
Presents bought from the store are nice too but it means a lot to people to get a gift from the heart.
