My Decluttering Journey

by Darla Youngblood

Today starts Lent for those who practice this but even if you don’t it’s a good time to declutter! The picture above is from another blogger and a great idea!
I moved from San Antonio Texas to here in Arizona 16 months ago. A friend from my church in San Antonio loaded a pod with all my stuff in storage. As I went through the boxes I got rid of a lot of stuff! But I’m still on the journey to get rid of more stuff.
I have a lot of books because I love to read! But they are just sitting in boxes in my storage room in my apartment. So I found a shelter here for women some coming from domestic violence and homeless. They have a thrift store and library that’s free to the women and they said they would be happy to take my donation of books!
I also follow a minimalist named Joshua Becker and he has a lot of great ideas on having less in your apartment or house and focus on what’s important our family and friends !
If the stuff you are getting rid of doesn’t help anyone then it’s okay to just throw stuff away. The whole goal of decluttering is so you don’t have too much stuff to have to dust and clean making things more simple.
At one point I had a lot of clothes but almost all of them were too big since I’ve lost 80 pounds and kept it off just by eating less at each meal. So now I literally have one washer for clothes and another washer for towels! Having only two loads of laundry to do has made my life so much easier!
Also when I cook I make casseroles or crockpot meals that I can eat the leftovers and not have to cook each day!
Make your life more simple and then you will be able to focus on what is important your family and friends!
