Mental Health

By Darla Youngblood

It is important in our daily wellness routine to not only focus on our physical health but also our mental health and wellbeing. Every day is important to just go outside for a little while. Breathe in that fresh air, feel the warmth of the sunshine, listen to the birds chirping in the trees, look around you at the beauty of our earth and really appreciate it. Take time each day to meditate, read your Bible or something else like a positive book. Focus every day on the positive things and people in your life. Practice kindness and compassion towards others because you never know what people are going through and how your kindness may change their life in some way. Focusing on being positive each day increases your mood, happiness and wellbeing. Each day write just 3 things you want to accomplish that day then at the end of each day feel positive and happy with yourself for accomplishing those 3 things. Focus on your breathing at night when you are ready to go to sleep. It clears your mind of any distractions and helps you sleep better. Do something fun each day. Read a book or article. Paint a picture. Plan out in detail a vacation including the costs. Then figure out how much money to set aside each month to go on vacation. Go out to drink coffee with a friend and catch up on what’s going on in both of your lives. Call a elderly family member or friend to just check on them and see if they need anything. Find ways every day to focus on your mental health! You will be so happy you did. Stay positive!
