Holiday stress

By Darla Youngblood

This is definitely me kinda slow moving in the morning until I’ve had one or two cups of coffee! This time of year with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s can be stressful if you don’t be careful. Trying to find that perfect gift or make that perfect meal is not important at all! So don’t stress yourself out doing that! Remember when we think about growing up and what we really remember about the holidays. It’s not the gifts we got or the food we ate either because who can even remember all of that as we get older! What we remember is the time we spent with our family and friends laughing and having great conversations and making wonderful memories we will never forget! I was only 7 years old when my grandmother died but I remember so much about her! I remember our whole family which was huge even then all coming to my Grandparents house for Christmas Day! I remember being in the kitchen in the early morning helping my mom and grandmother make 3 huge pans of our family dressing so we had plenty for every and two big turkeys in the oven. And all my cousins and aunts and uncles there all of us just laughing and happy just spending all day and night together until everyone went home. I’ve been very blessed with my huge family still having a family reunion every summer my entire life. It’s only once a year for a weekend but so much fun and still lots of laughs and making happy memories for the next generation of cousins. So this year just relax! Don’t stress over the perfect present or food but focus on the memories you are making with your family and friends. All of my grandparents, parents, uncles and aunts are in heaven now but I still cherish all the wonderful memories we made together and so thankful for all the cousins I have left to still make memories with and of course my favorite memories with my own children and grandchildren! Cherish people and make memories! None of us need more stuff. Really enjoy Christmas 🎄
