Birthdays

Recently my youngest granddaughter had a birthday. My daughter rented a covered pavilion at the park next to the playground and the grills. My son in law grilled hamburgers and we had everything we needed to make hamburgers or cheeseburgers and chips. My daughter bought the variety individual packages of chips so everyone could pick their favorite. Then she had a ice chest with a few different sodas and the individual small cups of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. She also had cut up some watermelon. Then she had bought a cute rainbow and clouds cake. Usually my daughter makes cupcakes which is also a great idea for individual cakes. The picture here shows a simple white cake with white frosting and sprinkles and who doesn’t love sprinkles especially kids. So it was a fun party for the kids! Also my daughter made a birthday list on Amazon for inexpensive gifts that my granddaughter would love so it made it so easy to pick her presents!
When I was growing up my birthday is in November and in Oklahoma that meant snow or rain on my birthday so we always had my birthday party inside. My Mom would make a cake and we would have cake ice cream and a pitcher of my favorite drink usually Hawaiian Punch. But for my tenth birthday I invited ten of my friends to spend the night. So after all the party games cake and ice cream we sat on the floor with just flashlights and told ghost stories. Well my Dad and one of my brothers had gone into the kitchen in the back door. But since it was quiet they decided to go back through the living room where we were telling ghost stories. As soon as they opened the living room door we all ten girls screamed! It was funny after we realized it was just my Dad and brothers not a ghost! Even now when I go back to my childhood town some of my friends still talk about that night!
So those are just two examples of a fun relatively cheap ideas for a kid’s birthday party. You don’t have to spend a lot of money for the kids to have fun and great memories. Look up some good birthday games the kids can play like we did when I was growing up. They are fun for the kids. In this fast paced world we live in it’s good to just get back to the basics for kids party stuff because they will have fun and lots of great memories.
