- Cancel subscriptions you don’t use often. Cancel streaming services. That extra ten or twenty dollars a month can add up and save you money. Cancel other subscriptions you rarely use.
- Overhaul your food and dining out budget. Look in your pantry, refrigerator and freezer before making your grocery list to see what meals you can make or maybe you only need one or two items to make a meal. Make a meal plan each week. This can also save you money only buying what you need for each meal. Dine out only occasionally. It is much cheaper to cook at home. Try new recipes instead of eating out. When you do eat out, drink water instead of those high priced drinks.
- Negotiate utility and service bills. Call your internet, phone and insurance providers to ask for loyalty discounts or switch to cheaper competitors.
- Cut energy and utility uses. Switch to LED bulbs, adjust thermostat by a few degrees and unplug electronics.
- Bundle and adjust insurance policies. Combine home and auto insurance under one provider and raise deductibles if you have an emergency fund.
- Consolidate and pay down high-interest debt. Move high-interest credit card balances to a lower-rate personal loan or 0% APR balance transfer card.
- Swap retail therapy for free entertainment. Trade paid outings and online shopping for local park visits, library events, or community free days.
- Shop secondhand for household goods and clothes. Buy clothing, furniture, and electronics pre-owned via thrift stores or local online marketplaces.
- Optimize transportation and commuting. Combine errands into single trips, carpool, or utilize public transit when available.
- Track every dollar with a strict budget. Use a monthly budget template or app to assign every dollar a job and review your totals daily.
