By Darla Youngblood

  • Choose time over money. Choose experiences over presents. Do holiday activities. Make a video call.

Shop early or throughout the year. My grandparents had 6 children plus their spouses and 27 grandchildren. She bought one present for each person or made them a present. She almost always bought me pretty stationary with matching envelopes so I could write them letters. She died when I was only 7 years old but I still have some of her letters which I cherish so much.

Give fewer gifts. Give just one present for each person. Make cookies or banana bread as a gift. Draw names. Host a movie night and have people bring snacks.

Don’t get caught up in marketing ads. Unsubscribe from emails. Stick to your budget.

Make online orders early so they get to you in plenty of time.

Combine online orders from the same store
  • Keep to your shopping list
  • Say no to random gift exchange
